How does the live forecast for my location work?
The forecast you see is generated by pulling data from the Met Office’s numerical weather model, which is then interpreted for your specific postcode or GPS coordinate via the BBC Weather service. It updates every hour, using radar and satellite observations to refine the short-term outlook. The practical takeaway is that the “live” element is most reliable for the next 0–3 hours; beyond that, treat it as a guide that will shift.
What do the weather symbols and percentages mean?
The icons next to your location show the dominant weather type (sun, cloud, rain) for that hour. The percentage number is the probability of precipitation (PoP) — a 40% chance of rain means that, in similar atmospheric conditions, rain has occurred 4 times out of 10 in that grid square.
